UX FT position open at Cummins, Inc. in Columbus, IN (about 45 minutes south of Indianapolis) - Dec. 2013

The User Experience Consultant needs to use all User Experience (UX)
techniques (e.g., card sorting, contextual inquiry, usability testing,
design thinking, iterative design and usability testing, etc.) to create
project deliverables. Each IT project need will vary. Mastery of User
Experience skills/techniques will be important to scope the effort and
execute work or direct others within agreed time, budget and expected
quality.

for a *User Experience Consultant located in Columbus IN.*



The User Experience Consultant needs to use all User Experience (UX)
techniques (e.g., card sorting, contextual inquiry, usability testing,
design thinking, iterative design and usability testing, etc.) to create
project deliverables. Each IT project need will vary. Mastery of User
Experience skills/techniques will be important to scope the effort and
execute work or direct others within agreed time, budget and expected
quality.



In this position you will:

Provide user research, interface design, and usability testing for IT web
application and site projects. This will require working with business,
business IT, delivery managers, off-shore development teams, and end users.

Assist with continued development and refinement of UX processes and
inclusion of UX into existing IT processes.

Help train junior team members in UX techniques

Expand UX into business IT



This position also:

Works to lead teams in developing user-centered designs for enterprise
systems.

Responsible for the delivery of design solutions that are strategic,
targeted, engaging and user-centered.

Works closely with the user-centered experience strategies team and
business partners to define and translate user goals and business goals
into user-centered experience strategies.

Proprietor of standards, processes and tools to instill a strong
user-centered design practice administered globally.

Leads the improvement of information architecture, usability, usefulness,
and desirability of websites and web applications targeting local and
international audiences.

Manages the creation of user experience deliverables, including sitemaps,
wireframes, personas, task analysis, content strategies, heuristic
evaluations, usability testing and reports, and other artifacts to describe
the intended user experience.

Manages a team of user experience professionals, contractors, and suppliers.

Works in collaboration with project managers, delivery managers, business
analysts, developers, content specialists, and other user experience
architects globally.

Articulates design concepts and prototypes, communicating the "vision" in a
variety of ways: visually and verbally.

Implements user experience strategies by serving on project teams as the
user experience consultant.

Governs best practices and standards regarding user interface and
interaction design, usability, accessibility, and information architecture
at both an enterprise and project level.

Maintains strong relationships with key customers encouraging them to
participate in research and interview projects.

Maintains strong relationships with external experts.

Coach, and train new and existing team members.

*Qualifications*



The successful candidate for this position must have the following basic
experience and skills:

User Research (e.g., customer journey/experience mapping, contextual
inquiry, card sorting, etc.)

User Experience Design(web and mobile), including interaction design,
information architecture

Usability Testing

Project Management

Communication/Presentation

Additionally the successful candidate for this position should have most of
the following advanced experience and skills:

User Experience Research & Analysis - The ability to be able to plan and
perform user research running the gamut from surveys to contextual inquiry
and customer journey/experience mapping, to understand who the users are
and their wants, needs, touch points, requirements. The ability to
transform user research into high-level conceptual models.

Interaction Design - The ability to apply user centered design practices to
define the information architecture, structure and behavior of interactive
products in order to create cohesive, predictive and desirable designs
based on holistic consideration of users’ experience.

Usability Testing - The ability to prepare and conduct usability tests,
both summative and formative, for the purpose of identifying and
prioritizing usability issues with a product or process.

User Interface Visual Design - The ability to apply user centered design
practices to generate the aesthetics associated with the user interface of
a product.

Web Analytics - The ability to collect, analyze and report web traffic data
for the purpose of understanding and optimizing the experience and
performance of web properties.

Business Relationship Management -  Ability to engage business sponsors and
contribute to their targeted business outcomes

Creative Thinking - involves generating new ideas and concepts, as well as
finding new associations between or new applications of existing ideas and
concepts

Experience, Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree in Human Computer Interaction,
Design, Human Factors or related subject required, or equivalent experience.

Significant level of experience in user experience, including supervisory
experience, required. Broad business knowledge required.

Compensation: Base salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
